Clean up the sorting of listings

we should have:

• tags getting sorted by default by what is displayed in lists (preferably in all lists, preferably by title)
• tags sorting override by custom sort string ("alt title")
• tags sorting override by a number (negative: earlier than letters, positive: later than letters?)
• do we want the version sort on the sort strings?
